He hadn't been in town long before he decided to look for some books. He couldn't bring all of his with him, and Terrene had been getting on him to go shopping for some good books. When it came to reading for the joy of it they seemed to enjoy the same stuff, and even if they didn't like a book they would read it just so they could make jokes about it. Of course, there were certain old fiction books Aternity wouldn't go near, and he tried to stay clear of the romance section altogether. He liked a good science fiction, preferably something about space ships. So as he was making his way through town he stumbled across Seven Rays on Broad Street.
A bell chimed as he walked through the door, his nose taking in the scent of the pages as he slowly stepped into the store, looking around and getting an idea of where each section was. When he spotted fantasy he made his way over to check out what was new. When it came to the older stuff he may have a look but he had pretty much read everything there was to read. As he picked up a new book it seemed he got eyed by the shop keep.
"If you're looking for something new to read, we have used books you may not have seen before. I find with science fiction and fantasy you can never go wrong with the classics."
Aternity pushed his glasses up along his nose, looking over to the older shop keep. The man seemed to be balding a bit, wearing glasses of his own though a much different and less stylish pair than Aternity's own. The book in Aternity's hand was opened to the middle of the page so he could get a look at the author's writing style further into the story.
"Thanks. I'll do that."
He looked down, reading a quick couple of paragraphs before becoming incredibly disinterested and shutting the book swiftly before placing it back in the shelf. He turned and made his way further into the store, out of sight from the shopkeep, not to be rude but in order to actually check out what kind of books he had bought off of customers to stock his store with. The smell of old books and dust seemed to fill the area though, and Aternity found himself on the brink of sneezing every couple of seconds, but never quite following through with the sneeze.
As he looked he found himself on his tip toes to reach the top shelves rather than grab a stool, mostly because it seemed stupid for someone his height to need a stool to reach books and he, at times, had small moments of stupidity where the simplest answer to a task was just too easy. So he did it the hard way, one hand holding onto the book shelf to steady himself, the other pulling books out and giving them a quick look. As he pulled a more promising book out he was hit by a bit of dust from underneath the book, and was overcome finally by the need to sneeze so loudly and strongly that he pulled the shelf off balance. As it started to fall, so did Aternity who landed hard on his ass before looking up at books falling down on him.
"Oh geez!"
He quickly phased through the books and book shelf as the area seemed to become engulfed in the dust from the old books, he found himself standing in the book shelf and quickly moved away from it, returning to normal so that he could try to pull it off as if he had narrowly missed being caught in the avalanche of old books. He hoped nobody had seen him do this, as it was always a bother if someone felt the need to awaken some sort of vengance. You know the types, 'a mage did this to me so now I'm going to hunt down all mages'. That was about as silly as saying my sister was murdered by a left handed man, so now I'm going to kill anyone who just so happens to be left handed.
"You okay?"
"I think so, but it'll be a miracle if I can find the book I was looking at now... sorry about that!"
"As long as your okay it's fine, don't worry about it. I'll get to it in a bit, feel free to browse them off the floor for now if there was anything you wanted from there."
Well, at least the shop keep was nice, but was anyone else in the store watching that?

Just recently, news had come over the city about two new species that were showing up. Reapers were one, and fae were the other. The Reapers seemed less common, only appearing in Bridgefield as of now. The fae though, were getting reports from numerous different cities. And it was because of all this, that The Bridgefield Union had kicked things into high gear. They weren't so much worried about killing them all, since that wasn't their goal, but to find out whatever information was available. To get this done, Svend, who was at the head of The Union, had sent out some hunters to scout things out and watch over these new species. Like usual, Lev was one of those hunters and was required to go out "into the field" and help with their little research project. Since he was a veteran hunter, and trained since the youngest age, he was taking most of the load in terms of work. Lev was used to all this though, but it didn't mean he enjoyed it.
As for today, he had just recently gotten off from working, but he was still required to look into things. If he went back home, he had his son who'd likely want to spend time with him. Lev didn't want to deny him that, but he also didn't want to get distracted or hold off on the things his boss told him to do. So to hopefully find some peace and quiet, he made his way towards the bookstore. The library probably would've been better, but he'd chosen a store instead. They could both be as equally quiet, except for when children showed up. But even then, Lev never got too upset about it. Having a son of his own, Markov, he loved kids. Not to mention that Markov loved books, so he often took him here to buy something new. As for now, that obviously wasn't the case. Lev was heading towards the bookstore to work on some research.
When he got there, he parked his truck and grabbed a case that held some of the papers and stuff that he had about reapers and fae. Then he walked inside, giving a quick nod to the shopkeeper at the counter. Again, he took Markov here from time to time, so he knew him pretty well. So once Lev found an open table that was relatively isolated, he sat down and opened up the case. He then took out some papers as well as an iPod. After putting the earbuds in and finding a song to listen to, he began reading over some of the stuff. A few moments later, some motion caught his eye. He noticed someone there earlier, but didn't pay any real attention until now. Based on the marking that most species had, Lev could tell that this being was a mage. It didn't really matter to him, since he wasn't the type of hunter who went after the supernatural simply because they weren't human. Working for The Union, he was always assigned to a hunt, so he had his reasons.
Looking up at the being, he couldn't help but snicker when he saw the bookcase fall over. "I would've expected you to use magic to get that." He said to him. It was Lev's typical sarcastic attitude showing again, and he was always rude and looked at as an asshole. More often than not, it got him into trouble, but it was a part of who he was. There was no changing that either, no matter how many people he upset or offended. And when he was drunk, it only got worse. But hey, he was Russian, and while it might've been a stereotype that Russians loved to drink, it always proved true with him. For the time being though, he was completely sober. However, that didn't make the asshole part of him go away.

"I would've expected you to use magic to get that."
Aternity's interest was suddenly piqued, and he had a sudden urge to run away. He wasn't one for showing off abilities and magic. In fact, he had a fear for the kind that just tried to kill anything and everything. Not just the hunters, but anything that got a little hungry for something with a magical flavor. Still, even with his fear he had something much more empowering, confidence that if it came down to him or some hunter, he could easily take one down. Not that he wanted to though, peace and all that.
"I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about."
Aternity simply said with a smile before kneeling next to the pile under the fallen shelf, pulling books out one at a time and seeing if they happened to be the one he was trying to grab. After the second try he got it and stood up fully, turning his eyes to take in the man he was faced with. Obviously athletic, and the badassery meter rose a bit with the tattoo he had at the side of his neck. Of course, marks on necks were never a good sign. Maybe this one meant something? Aternity's own was just his mage mark and nothing more. He sometimes forgot it was even there, for instance just now when he tried to play off the incident as if he wasn't magical at all.
"Besides, even if I was able to use magic, I wouldn't flaunt it. I'd do something much more subtle. After all, wouldn't want to draw unnecessary attention, would I?"
Aternity mentally accepted the fact that the guy was fully aware that he was a mage, hopes for a friendship arose with the idea that he was new here and didn't really know anyone, but the chances of that were slim. For one, the guy seemed human, which wasn't a problem in itself, but it meant there was a risk that the guy wanted Aternity dead for no other reason save for the fact he was what he was. And then second, the guy didn't inspire companionship when he'd rather make a magic comment than ask if Aternity was alright or if he wanted help finding his book.
Aternity gave the guy a wink, walking past him and tapping his shoulder with the science fiction book. He still wanted to find something else. He started browsing what looked like even older books than the one he had already grabbed. As he searched he decided to make a little more conversation.
"Out of pure curiosity, if you had magic would you be using it?"
Aternity figured either the guy was a normal human, and he'd give him a quick lesson to think in someone else's shoes, or he was something other than human and he was doing nothing more than making him realize that using magic as a mage in public was no more different than a vampire feeding in public. Of course, using small magic was harmless, but it still caught eyes from humans.

The words that came out of the mage's mouth made Lev snicker once more. "I believe you do." He said to him, still keeping his eyes on the paperwork at the table. It had been made obvious that this person wasn't human by the marking he had, and Lev knew what each marking meant for the different species. Not to mention that part of his training had included picking out lies, it was useless to try it against him. At the age where most children would be playing with actions figures and toy cars, Lev was using guns, knives, and various other weapons. He was pretty top notch, but he knew he was still at the bottom of the food chain as a human. Always keeping that in mind, Lev made up for it with techniques and skills learned along the way. As far as mages went...well, he wasn't too concerned about them. They weren't exactly the strongest species around.
Looking up at the mage once more as he heard him confess, Lev took in his words. "Who cares if you draw attention?" He asked, that asshole personality showing through again. "If you draw their attention, that's their problem. And if they try to start something because of it, fight back." Either that, or you could just ignore them if all they were doing was looking. Now while he didn't like it, there were a few times where his weapons were out and visible to the public. Of course he got looks for it, as well as people backing off, but he just ignored them. They weren't any part of his business, and could only prove to be a waste of time if he decided to do something. So that being said, Lev went back to the task at hand, needing to get all this stuff done by tomorrow morning when he went back to work.
If he didn't get it in by then, he'd get a mouthful in return. Which was all too typical for his boss. Although they could get along at times, the guy was always finding reasons to blame Lev. Why that was, he didn't know. But he was the one who paid him, and Lev needed the money now that he had a son to take care of. So he often obeyed for the most part, and he hoped that he wouldn't have to turn in these papers late. Keeping focused on his work, he noticed the mage approach him, though didn't think much until he got close enough and he saw him wink, followed by tapping him on the shoulder with the book. Looking back at him, he struck with one of his typical remarks. "That wasn't supposed to be your attempt at becoming friends, was it?" Lev asked. "I don't make friends easily, especially with the supernatural."
That fact about friendship wasn't something personal for Lev though. He honestly didn't mind having friends who weren't human, just as long as he liked their personality and they could get past his attitude. It was his boss who didn't like him "hanging out" with inhuman species. The guy hated supernaturals, and it would drive him nuts if he found out that Lev had befriended someone who wasn't human. But instead of explaining all that and answering the mage's question, he just threw out the truth as it was. To level things out though, it was hard for him to befriend humans as well. He wasn't the type to go right ahead into a friendship. So if anyone wanted to be friends with him, he'd be quick to deny them...at first. If it ever got to the point of him trusting them and liking their personality, that was when friendship was possible.
