I think I gave him the slip Akeelah thought as she took a look around at her surroundings. The street was empty, virtually devoid of life at the present save for her. There was no one else, not even the man she had been running away from. Why was she on the run you ask? Well because she screwed up. She had been picking pockets around town and had slipped up and got caught in the act by one of the people she had stolen from. She had no other choice but to run for it. It was a good thing that she was fast and knew how to worm her way out of such messes. The guy was persistent though, he had kept up the chase for a good while, going so far as to chase her all the way to another part of town just to catch her. She even had to duck into an alley and shift into her cat form just to give him the slip. It took a lot longer than she expected but from the look of it she was safe. She managed to get away and still hold onto his wallet in the process.
It wasn’t all good though. The chase had forced her into new territory and now she was lost. Nothing more than a stray cat wandering around hopelessly looking for a way out. It didn’t help that it was getting dark out now, and from the looks of this area it was probably dangerous to be wandering about alone, cat or not after dark. She needed to get out of this place now or at the very least find some shelter. So long as she had a safe place to stay for the night she would be fine. Akeelah stopped moving and took a look around to make sure that no one else was around before shifting back into her human form. There wasn’t much point in staying in her cat form now that she wasn’t being followed and for the time being she wasn’t in any danger so there was no reason to hide. There were other things to be concerned about. Like finding a place to stay…
Luckily she might not have to look too far for that. There were a few abandoned buildings on this street. Abandoned buildings made decent shelters when you needed one for parties or various illegal activities. The only way to find that out though was to take a look around. Akeelah walked over to the nearest seemingly abandoned building. There were no lights on and it looked unkept so most likely no one was living in it. Only one way to find out. she though. Taking another quick look around to make sure no one else was there before going to the door and swung it open to take a look inside. _______________________________

This city was full of them. Humans, or simply scum as most could refer to them as. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing though. Sure, Niko hated them, but they were his source of food. It was because they were clueless, slow, and arrogant, that made humans the perfect targets. Though again, Niko would always have ill feelings towards them. It was indeed a fact that they were at the bottom of the food chain when it came to the species, but they still acted like they were top dogs. Especially hunters. Oh yes, hunters were one of the two very groups of people that Niko hated the most. Long story short, he was tossed out and betrayed by the hunters. Not that he ever liked or worked for them. They just ordered him to do so, and when he didn't, it gave them more reason to try and kill him. Of course, that all failed for the hunters, and here Niko was. Still alive today and looking for some vengeance.
Now what was the other species that he hated? Vampires. Fucking ignorant, selfish bastards that they were. They annoyed him on so many levels, that in was unexplainable at times. Not to mention that at first, Niko was supposed to be looked at as superior to the vampires. But once he was cast out as failure, the hunters were quick to hold the vamps above him. From the start of things, he already hated vampires, and this only made things worse. He also hated sirens, but not nearly as much as the hunters and leeches. They really hadn't done much in the way of wronging him, though that didn't stop him from killing them if he wanted to. Some people thought it was jealousy for them being held above him, but Niko refused to believe that. As far as the hunters and vamps, he mainly hated them for what they did. And he also hated the fact that he was related to the damn leeches.
And now as he walked along the streets near Pleasantview Corner, he could sense a few of those blood sucking bastards around. However, once he caught the scent of someone who seemed more human, they became less of an interest. He'd worry about finding them later, but for now, this new scent was on his mind. So he followed it and came to find a younger woman wandering around. She seemed to be weary of her surroundings, but Niko was out of sight. Once he saw her approach a building, he knew that she was likely going to search it. He didn't want the chance of potential prey getting away, so he quickly thought of a plan. If she was so cautious of her surroundings, it meant she had either done something wrong, or was just careful of this area in general. Either way, he had a feeling that he'd catch her attention if she saw him.
Now the best idea was likely to just approach her and ask a question or something, but Niko was in the mood to make things more interesting. So he made his way into the street, simply giving her a nod as he walked by. Then he sat down at the bench of a bus stop and waited. He didn't think she would approach him, but he'd love it if she did. If she didn't, and went inside the building, then he'd give it some time to see if she came out. And if that didn't work, then he'd go inside and hunt down his prey himself. As you could imagine, Niko had numerous options here. He could easily give away that he meant trouble, or he could take on the roll of some lower class guy who was just wandering the streets. His usual tactics were the latter, and they seemed to work, so that was what he was going with. Hopefully, it would get him what he needed once again. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! Akeelah was still unsure if it was a good thing or not that the door was unlocked. It could mean anything, that one there was no one who cared who entered the place since they were going to leave the place anyway, that the lock might be broken, or it had already been broken into or something. If it was the latter she certainly hoped that whoever did that wouldn’t return. At a glance the lock seemed perfectly fine so that ruled out the broken theory. Well at least she didn’t need to force her way through. Even if it was locked she had ways of getting inside, for starters she knew how to pick lockets a useful little trick she had picked up since she left home. The cheapest method she had ever used before was shifting into a spider and slipping in through the cracks provided of course that no one was around to see her change. She probably would’ve done the latter at this moment since no one else was here.
Or so she thought. Akeelah failed to notice the hidden predator watching from the distance. Nor did she notice him coming until the sounds of his footsteps reached her ears once he came near the bus stop. The young shifter turned around quickly, holding back a string of curse words, to see him giving her a quick nod as he made his way to the bus stop. Crap when the hell did he get here? Did he see her shift earlier? Probably not since he didn’t look at her with either fear, anger, or any other kind of emotion that would tip her off to that. And he didn’t attack her right away which she assumed a hunter would do if he was one. His actions were casual and polite, nothing out of the ordinary. But still, she didn’t like being seen like this. He wasn’t acting abnormal but that didn’t mean he wasn’t a threat, but there wasn’t much that she could do at this point. There was no way that she was going to try and start something if he didn’t make a move first.
So she chose to ignore the man for the time being and just entered the building, closing the door behind her and leaving the stranger to do whatever he wanted outside. She wasn’t willing to turn down a potential living space just because some stranger caught her sneaking in. Akeelah took a look around the first floor, checking out each room to make sure that no one else was there. So far so good, the building was quiet and there weren’t any signs of recent inhabitants. It was kind of roomy too, a decent spot to stay in for a few days, maybe even a few months depending on how long Akeelah chose to live in this city. With the first floor cleared she made her way up to the second floor to investigate. The basement she would save for last since it most likely would take the quickest to look through and at the moment it would be harder to see in the dark. She made her way up the stairs to the next floor and again she found no signs of life. There was almost no point in checking the rest of the place out, it was probably as empty as the rest of the place but still, it was better to be safe than sorry.
Akeelah took a quick peek into the first two rooms to find them empty but when she tried to go through the second door was locked. “What the hell?” she mumbled as she tried to get it to open. Well that was odd, the front door was unlocked and yet she couldn’t open this one? She pressed her ear up against the door to make sure no one was inside, and to no surprise she didn’t hear anything. Maybe the original owner just forgot to unlock his room before they left? There was only one way to find out. Akeelah crouched down in front of the door to investigate the lock; it was your standard house lock nothing that she couldn’t take care of. It didn’t look like it was broken either so she would have no trouble trying to pick at it. She fished inside of her pocket to pull out her makeshift lock pick and got to work, might as well brush up on that skill while she was here now that she had the time. Not like she had to worry about someone seeing her do it.

After sitting down at the bench, Niko took the time to observe his surroundings more. He didn't look around much, but simply allowed his other senses to do the work. From what he could tell, there were some humans around, none of them within sight at the moment. And more than likely, a handful meant trouble. Not very many people wandered around here because of its bad reputation, unless they had to, or wanted to start something. And it was for that reason that Niko often came to these areas. He liked turning the tables on people, and he doubted anyone would try to call the cops. So if anyone were to come by and try to do something to Niko, he'd be more than happy to deal with the situation in his own way. As for now, everyone seemed to be keeping about their own business, which was good for them. There likely wasn't anyone around who wanted their throat nearly ripped out and their blood drained from their body. To keep that from happening, it was best that they stayed away from Niko.
In some cases though, it was simply unpreventable. If he found someone he wanted to feed from, he'd stalk them if he had to. In a situation like that, your best option was to fight back, but it really wasn't much use. And from the looks of things, stalking was what Niko would have to resort to at the moment. The younger woman had went inside the building, and if she were looking for a place to stay, the building seemed pretty suitable. Before getting up though, Niko decided to give it some more time. Usually, he didn't have much in the way of patience, but that was with people he didn't like. If he had to follow someone for food though, he made room for patience. So he sat and waited, the moon nearly full in the sky, but partially covered by clouds. With a moon like that, Niko knew that the weres in the city were probably all riled up. In a day or two, they'd lose control and wander the streets in their alternate forms.
A few moments later, a breeze went by, sending a few loose papers down the street, as well as the stench of human. Glancing back over at the building, Niko didn't see any sign of the young woman. So he finally got to his feet and walked over towards the building. Stopping just short of the door, he took a moment to glance into the windows to see if she was around. Luckily, she wasn't, and that gave Niko the opportunity to proceed. Opening the door, he made sure to be as quiet as possible. He didn't want to give away his presence too soon, since it could allow the woman to escape through a back door if she felt the need to. So Niko carefully closed it behind him before continuing through the building. Once again relying on his senses, he tried to figure out where exactly his "prey" was. If he could find out, it made things easier by a million.
Sensing that she was further away, Niko made his way up to the second floor, where her presence seemed stronger. Stopping for a moment, he took in his surroundings once more. He then took a left, and came to find that the young woman was very much close. Treading carefully, it wasn't long before Niko came across a corner. He had a gut feeling that she was just around it, but he didn't want to go around just yet. Catching eye of an open door just across the hall, he made a move. Since he was inhuman, he had the ability of speed on his side, and quickly darted into the empty room. Whether or not the shifter had noticed him, he wasn't sure. But hopefully she hadn't, and it'd give him more time to come up with a plan. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! “Fuck, why is this taking so long?” she growled at the door. She had been fidgeting with the stupid lock for a few good minutes now but the stupid thing wouldn’t open. She didn’t understand why it wasn’t working; it couldn’t be that she was getting rusty wasn’t it? Well she did get caught while on the job earlier today, maybe she was getting rusty. Man, today just isn’t my day. she thought bitterly. Why was it that she was making so many slip ups lately? Something had to be done about this bad luck soon. At least things couldn’t get any worse from this point, least of all not tonight. Finally she heard the tiniest clicking sound coming from the lock and her heart lifted. “Finally. Stupid piece of junk.” She stood back up when she felt something. Like the feeling that she was being watched. She turned around quickly to see if there was something that she missed but of course there was nothing there. What the hell was that? Were her instincts off whack too? She tried to shake the feeling off; the chances are she was just being paranoid. So far there wasn’t anything there, she had already checked the other rooms and next to this one there was only one more room to check and that door was wide open. The chances were if there was someone there she would’ve heard them by now. It would be impossible for someone to sneak in without her knowing about it.
Screw it, she needed to get this over with quickly and finish her search on this floor. Akeelah turned the doorknob and swung the door open to look inside. The room was pretty much the same as all the other rooms, save for some really old looking furniture that looked like it hadn’t been used in years. Well so much for finding anything interesting there. She sighed, well this wasn’t really worth the effort but at least she knew that no one was hiding there. Guess I’ll just check the last room and then head to the basement. Once that was done she could finally relax, maybe she should check out the wallet she took before trying to go to sleep? She didn’t get the chance to see what was inside yet, hopefully the damn thing was worth all that trouble to get. Her victim seemed to think so. Akeelah turned around to leave the room, intending to get this over with quickly so she could take a break. She was feeling tired after that long chase and wanted nothing more than to crash and sleep till morning. But she had to do this, it was routine. There was no way she was going to risk being attacked by some stranger that she failed to notice because she didn’t make sure that the place was empty first.

Based on the things inside as well as the condition, it was obvious that this building hadn't been abandoned too long ago. It might've been awhile, but not nearly as long as the buildings found in the outskirts of the city. A number of those places looked like they were about to collapse, torn at by erosion, the weather, and man kind. It could be a nice place to go to if you wanted some peace and quiet, but you had to pick the right time. Hunters had claimed it as "their" territory, and every so often, they could come by to check things out. One of these days, Niko had the idea of going there, just to start trouble with the ignorant little bastards. By now, he was certain that they knew about him. So why not give them a little surprise, such as a face to face meeting? If any of them lived long enough, which wasn't likely although not impossible, than they could run off and tell their colleagues.
If Niko ever attacked anyone though, his main goal wasn't usually to let them live, especially if he fed. He preferred killing his prey, rather than turning them into Reapers. However, Niko was thinking of changing that tactic. If he wanted to overwhelm the hunters like he had originally planned, the more Reapers he had on his side, the better. And now that Niko had this shifter in the cross hairs, he had to decide whether he wanted to kill her, or turn her. That decision depending on how she was as a fighter, and if he liked her overall personality. No use in turning someone that he didn't like. So after Niko stepped into the empty room, he tried to find a way to hide away from the woman if she came his way. Looking up at the ceiling, he was pleased to find an attic. It was missing the main door, but that didn't matter much to him.
Using adherence to his advantage, Niko scaled the wall, then the ceiling to get to the attic. Once in there, he made sure to position himself in an area that couldn't be seen from down below in the room. If the shifter wanted to find him, she'd have to find a way to get to the attic itself. And without anything to climb up on, that wasn't exactly easy. This factor also helped to create the false belief that no one else could get up in the attic either. Again, Reapers weren't very well known yet. So not everyone knew about them and their ability to climb on walls and ceilings. That being said, Niko remained quiet to keep from being noticed. There wasn't much in the attic, so he didn't have to worry about bumping into things. All that there there, were a few boxes and some old clothes. Then of course, there was the dust, but it didn't bother him.
Looking out from the opening, he saw the shifter enter the room a few moments later. He was out of sight, although it didn't mean she wouldn't be able to sense him. Although her kind were more closely related to humans, they could still sense things out on a lower level. One of the biggest was simply that "gut" feeling, but a lot of it was a sense of smell as well. To cover that up, hunters often used different scents to cover themselves up. Now in Niko's opinion, that was just plain stupid. Really. If you were to go to an abandoned building, what were the chances that you'd randomly smell a shot of aerosol or something in the middle of nothing? Niko knew though that as humans, they weren't exactly the smartest species in the World. As for shifters though, well, he was waiting to find out what this one would do. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! When Akeelah stepped into the last room again she felt like she was being watched. It was an eerie feeling, the kind that made your skin crawl just from the sensation. But there was nothing there that she could see. The room just like all the rest was empty; the only thing that stood out was the attic. But even that wasn’t much, for starters she couldn’t get up there, there was no set of stairs that she could pull down to climb up. It didn’t even have a door; it must’ve broken off or something awhile ago. The only way anyone could get up there is if they is if they either climbed up to the ceiling or could fly in there. Of course it wouldn’t be much of a problem for her. If she really wanted to she could turn into a bat and fly up to investigate. She stared up at the attic, debating if she should go that far. It was too dark to see in any case in this form. She might not be human but her eyesight was limited to that of a human. Her sense of smell couldn’t detect anything and besides the creepy feeling that she was getting there was nothing else that could tell if she was being watched.
Screw it, there’s probably nothing there anyway. It wouldn’t be easy for anything to get up there without some difficulty. Besides her kind the only other creatures that could try might be an angel or demon, or anything with wings but it looked like it would be a tight fit for any creature with wings. So it wasn’t likely that anything was up there, but even knowing that the feeling didn’t go away. But without any real evidence to support that feeling there was no point in leaving yet. Technically besides the attic Akeelah had inspected the entire second floor; the only place now was to check out the basement. Maybe when she was done there she could come back and look in the attic to settle her nerves once and for all and get some sleep. Reluctantly Akeelah turned away from the attic and made her way out the room, wanting nothing more than to leave the damn place behind so that creepy feeling would go away.

The darkness of the shadows helped to keep him hidden as the shifter walked into the room. Her scent washed over the area, and to Niko, it was very similar to a human. He always hated their scent, but it was a million times better than the scent of a vampire. The leeches always smelled like rotting flesh and decay, even if they weren't in their vampire forms. Thankfully, Niko and the other Reapers never inherited that from them. Unlike vamps, their skin didn't practically rot like some sort of zombie. However, he was still related to them, and hated that fact with a burning passion. But instead of getting angry when someone mistook him for a vamp, he just found it humorous. Reapers were stronger, and Niko never usually had a problem with killing vampires. To him, they were easy game. Only a handful of people have proven challenging for him, but he hasn't been out around the city that long.
So if vampires weren't too much of a challenge, he wasn't too concerned about this shifter. And as she got closer to the attic, he made sure to watch her every move. If she were to look up and spot him, he didn't have very many options from there. He'd have to make up some sort of excuse to be there, and find a way to get around the situation. That, or he could just flat out attack. Thankfully, he didn't have to do have to do either as he saw the shifter head out of the room. Once she was gone, Niko moved closer to the edge of the entrance of the attic, and made his way out, climbing along the ceiling and wall again. It would've been easier to just drop down, but that would've made some unwanted noise. A thud on the ground, would definitely indicate that someone or something was here in the building.
After adjusting the hood of his coat, Niko proceeded forward to follow the shifter. He didn't know where she was going, nor did he care. Even if she left the building, it didn't matter. Just as long as she was clueless about his presence. So far, everything seemed to be going well, and he hoped it would stay that way. And with those thoughts in mind, Niko walked into hall where he eventually caught up to his target. "You should've searched the room a little better." He said to her, not wanting to give her the time to turn around and spot him first. And Niko had no plans of lying and saying that it wasn't him that was up in the attic. If she had a feeling that someone was there, and then Niko appeared, it'd be easy to put two and two together. So there'd no point in lying, whatsoever.
As for now, Niko seemed very much human. The only thing that gave away the fact that he was a Reaper, was the scar on his chin. Even then, he still looked human. The mark that nearly every species had, was nonexistent for him and others like him. Niko was supposed to be the only Reaper, so the hunters of his time found no reason to give him a mark. And the fact that they were simply going to use him, made Niko wonder what they planned to do with him if he went ahead with their wishes. Probably kill him...so it would've been a lose-lose situation for him. But now that he was free and on his own, none of that mattered. He could do his own things out on the street, most of which was feeding and stalking prey, much like he was now. So with his eyes locked on the shifter, he awaited her reply. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! Word Count: 627 Notes: - Wearing: See header image Lyrics: Rise Up - Drowning Pool Credit: Lycan

Akeelah quickly made her way down the stairs, back down to the first floor. Just one more room left to check and she would be done. Good thing too cause she was tired and wanted to go to sleep as soon as possible. That and she really did not want to stay up on the second floor any longer when she still felt like she was being watched. She couldn’t help but think in the back of her mind that she should go back and double check that attic. There was no real reason for that besides her gut feeling that something was wrong, but who could possibly get up there? Rationality fought with instincts, she couldn’t help it, it was in her nature to be careful. Being careful was the whole reason that she was still alive today. Maybe I should just give it one last look she thought, it wouldn’t hurt to give it another goal. Besides the basement there weren’t much places in the building for anyone to hide in besides the attic, the rest of the building didn’t offer much in terms of cover. The most a potential enemy could do was hide in a closet or at best behind a door. Yeah, she would go back and go up there this time just to be safe. Not now though, the basement should come next since she had already left the second floor. In case there was something there before but it moved she could do another quick check of the whole building just to be safe.
Now where was the basement again? Akeelah pondered, she remembered that it was somewhere around the staircase. She sighed softly, she had not been in this place long and already she was forgetting her way around here. Her sense of direction had always been bad but right now it was just plain sad. She took a few steps forward when her memory jogged back, oh right it was just around the corner. Just as she was about to turn the corner a voice caught her attention, almost making her jump in surprise at the sudden intrusion. Immediately she turned around and shot the speaker with a fierce glare. It was instinctual for her react with anger in moments like these, if this man wanted to harm her she wanted to show clearly that she wasn’t something to mess with. She was a bit surprised to see who it was standing before her. It was the man that she saw not too long ago by the bus stop. So this was the person that she felt was following her? It had to be him since he was the only person she saw on the street. She doubted that he had only just arrived in this place; he must’ve been the presence that she had felt up on the second floor. Not just based on her gut feelings from earlier but based on what he said. What bothered her though was how he could’ve gotten up there not just so quickly but how he could do that without her noticing. This situation was too odd for her liking.
“And you shouldn’t be sneaking up on people.” She retorted, “You never know what they might do.” Akeelah eyed him carefully, trying to figure out exactly what he was. Obviously this man was not human, he didn’t act like it. His movements and his attitude screamed of a creature with a predator mindset. Something that no human had, not naturally in any case so that automatically ruled that out. He was probably not an angel either, it wasn’t like they weren’t above attacking shifters if they wanted to but she doubted one of them would go to such lengths when she hadn’t done a thing to them. Demon? Again that was a no, Akeelah had met one of those already and based on the scent which wasn’t much anyway he didn’t smell like one. Maybe he was a vampire; it was typical of vampires to stalk their prey at night. Vampires could also hide their true forms until they attacked. If he was one she would be in trouble but she wouldn’t show him that. There was a chance if she dropped him the obvious hint that she wasn’t human that he might leave her alone. She wasn’t sure if that would work though, vampires wouldn’t mind if they fed on someone that wasn’t human any blood was good enough to them.
“I suggest you go look for some other helpless punk to bother. I don’t take kindly to being annoyed.” It was a clear warning. Ideally Akeelah would rather avoid fighting; she didn’t have the time or the patience to do battle with anyone tonight. But if she had to she wouldn’t hesitate to change shape and fight this creature off. Self-defense was the only reason she would fight. With any luck he would leave now and she could move somewhere else for the night. If she was lucky.

Upon hearing the shifter's words, Niko's expression remained rather plain and emotionless. "Why would I care what people do?" He asked. Until the majority found out how to kill a Reaper, Niko didn't have much in the way of concerns. Ever since he's made himself known in this city, he's seen numerous people try numerous things to try and kill him. Head shots, shots to the chest, even trying to get a blade or bullet through the throat. Niko could heal quite fast, so none of that would prove fatal or all that dangerous to him. It was when they tried shots to the heart from the side, or trying to take his head off, that he'd be more weary. Dying before he could get the Reaper species going well, wasn't what he planned for. Again, he wanted revenge on the hunters. Personal revenge was what he preferred, but even if he died, his goal of overwhelming those damn humans could live on with the other Reapers.
That idea probably got people wondering why he killed more people than he turned. For one, he liked draining his victims dry and taking every last drop. Blood was like a fine wine to him, not to be wasted unless you had to. Second, he was observing how things went with other Reapers before going through with his plan. He didn't want all of this to come crashing down on him because he jumped the gun. And hey, maybe if he felt like it, he could turn this shifter instead of killing her. Her attitude was something he liked, and upon first impressions, she seemed like a fighter. Niko could definitely use someone like her to his advantage, and that was another thing about him. He never really made friends, he just used people. And even if you managed to find the good side of him, it didn't mean you were safe. If he ever felt like doing so, he'd kill a so called "friend" in a heart beat.
Hearing her next few words, a smirk came to Niko's face. "But you seem more challenging than some helpless punk." Niko said, beginning to pace around her like some vulture. "I like a challenge." Now while it was fun to take unsuspecting people off guard and attack them, Niko enjoyed a good challenge just as much. Easy prey wasn't what he always looked for. And what made things better, was the fact that the being in front of him was a shifter. She could take the form of a smaller animal, or any animal really, and hideout somewhere in this building. He wasn't sure if that was her nature, but if it was, he'd enjoy trying to hunt her down. After all, he was a predator, and predators were hunters. Obviously not the human type though. Despite what hunters in this city thought, the majority of them weren't much at all.
To the supernatural, they were simply human...walking meat bags as some of them were referred to. Or really, walking meat bags with guns. That was practically their only line of defense against those who were stronger than them. It humored Niko, but it also annoyed him at times as well. So as he walked around this shifter, he hoped that she'd fight without weapons. It was a shame to see the supernatural using guns and knives to fight. That was going down to the level of the humans. But if that's how they wanted to play, than they could play. Niko refused to use firearms of any sort. Knives were fine, guns were not. And if anyone were to think that he was armed with a gun...even if it were for last resort, they'd be wrong. As he made his paces, the only kind of weapon he had on him was a simple knife. He had a feeling though that he wouldn't even need that. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! Word Count: 649 Notes: Wasn't sure how to end this one. Her words did nothing more than amuse this unknown creature much to her disappointment. She wanted nothing more than to wipe that smirk off his face but she didn’t go out of her way to strike at him, even while he started to circle her like a predator that had just cornered his prey. Her first warning had gone unheeded, not too surprising really. Try as she might it wasn’t easy to intimidate anyone as a five foot tall teenage girl human or not. Most would just shrug off the threat or worse laugh at her for acting so tough when she didn’t look like it. Still it had been worth the shot just to see how determined this creature was to get her, and from the looks of it he didn’t mind the idea of a fight just to get at her. What he wanted though she couldn’t tell just yet. The chances were that he was a vampire which most likely meant that he wanted her blood, there was the off chance that he might try to turn her if he got his hands on her. If he’d be successful in the latter she wasn’t so sure about. Akeelah had never heard of a shifter being turned before but she had only learned the basics of the other species from her father before she left. All she knew was that being bit was enough to turn a human so long as they weren’t drained of all their blood in the first place. She highly doubted though that, she didn’t know much about vampires but she suspected that most didn’t go about carelessly biting helpless victims and turning them. If they were that stupid there would be a lot more of those bloodsuckers roaming about the streets. So if this thing before her was a vampire he most likely wanted her dead.
Too bad for him Akeelah didn’t have a death wish, nor did she have the desire to be turned whether he intended to turn her or not. Her life didn’t have much going for her, she had no one that cared about her and no one that would miss her if she died but she didn’t want to die, not like this. Akeelah would die on her own terms, not when some creature of the night wanted a little snack. With that in mind there were only two options left to take, stay here and fight or try to hide. If she tried to run now she could shift and find a place to hide, it would be difficult for him to find her if she turned into something small and keep herself hidden till she saw the perfect opportunity to escape. But she didn’t like that idea; it only served to delay the inevitable. There weren’t that many places to hide here even if she took on a smaller form and so long as he had her scent he could eventually track her down. The biggest problem was that it pushed her into the position if prey. Running and hiding was something that prey did because that was all that they knew to do. The only time a predator did that was when they had no other options. Akeelah had too much pride to submit herself to that level. Besides if she went with that idea she would be too small to defend herself if she was caught so that left her with one other option, to fight.
Akeelah watched the creature circle around her, not even bothering to move until the second he was out of her sight. The moment that he was out of sight she turned around to face him. She might be brave but she was not stupid, she never turned her back on a potential threat and this thing was no exception. She moved with him, circling him in turn showing no sign of fear or worry as she glared at him. Her instincts were screaming for the need to fight this thing. She could already feel the urge to shift into something more suited for a fight. But it wasn’t time yet, jumping right into it first without much of a plan wasn’t the smart thing, in fact that might just get her killed.
“You might be biting off more than you can chew.” She growled back, “I’m only going to tell you this once. Leave. Now. Or I’ll make you leave.” It was his final warning and if he had any sense he would take it and find someone else to hunt tonight. She had already made up her mind to fight but if there was a safe way to avoid it then she would take it. The best hope she had of that was if he gave up first. It wasn’t likely he would but she had to give it once last chance. If he didn’t though, she had an idea of what to do. At this moment they were circling each other like two wild cats at a standoff in the hallway; it was a disadvantage on both ends because of the limited mobility. If she could just move this into one of the rooms nearby though, it would give them both more room to maneuver. The closest room would be good enough, there was plenty of space and even better there was a window there that she could use to escape if she needed to. All she had to do was lead him there if he didn’t just walk off now.

Keeping his eyes on his prey, Niko watched every movement and tried to read hints that she gave off. He was looking for weaknesses and flaws, something he could get at an advantage with. For one, there was the fact that she was much closer to humans than he was, making her weaker. Two, Niko could easily adhere to the walls and ceiling if he had to. It allowed him a lot more mobility, but if she didn't use weapons, then it wasn't all too necessary to use the walls. All he would really need them for, was to move around and gain some speed. And because of these advantages that Niko had, he was confident that he had this one in the bag. All he had to do from here, was wait for the right moment to strike. There might've been a fight for a moment or two, but it was rare to find a random human on the street who could fight. Or a random being that was close to humans.
So as he continued to pace around her, he also took in his surroundings. Where the shadows were, small spaces, extra rooms, etc. Where they were at the moment though, didn't provide them with much space. If she didn't move them into a larger room first, he'd go ahead and do it. It'd have to be after the fight started though, since he doubted anyone would follow someone who wanted to kill them. Unless they had a death wish of course. And it was completely obvious by now that this younger woman didn't. Not that he planned to kill her anyway. Again, he wanted to turn her and better the Reaper species, one person at a time. All it would take, was for him to get a hold of her, and bite. Unlike vampires, his kind had a feeding tube once they opened their mouth into a split. If the teeth on that tube penetrated any skin, a toxin would immediately be injected, temporarily paralyzing a victim for some time. Should Niko get to that point, it was a done deal.
Continuing in his pace, he only stopped when he heard the shifter's words. "You make a bold threat." He said to her. He then began to shift to is Reaper form before speaking again. "Shame that I'll be turning you at such a young age." By now, two things were obvious. The first was that he didn't have the intention of killing her. He had just told her directly that his plans were to turn her. The second thing, was that he wasn't a vampire as she had thought. Vampires looked like rotting corpses in their true form, and Niko didn't resemble them at all. His eyes were white in color now, with black pupils staring down his opponent, and his skin was a bit more pale. If he were to turn her, she wouldn't have much of a choice on whether to be good or bad. Reapers didn't have any morals, and were always the ones causing trouble.
If her body reacted well to the virus, then she'd recover and keep all of her humanistic personalities. Such as emotions and the ability to speak. If not, then she'd become one of those "lower end" Reapers, who were more like mutants. They had to resort to grunts and growls as a form of language, and only had the basic instincts. The need to feed, survive, etc. Niko honestly didn't care which happened with her. As long as there was one more Reaper than he'd created in this city. So after taking a few steps closer to the shifter, he pushed the hood off from his coat and stood in front of the being. "Ladies first. I don't have all night." He didn't have much in the way of patience either, but he was more concerned about sunrise. He could withstand sunlight for the most part, as long as he kept it away from his eyes. UV rays were what blinded Reapers, a weakness for him, and an advantage for others. But it didn't come all that easily. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! His words brought to light his intentions, confirming what she thought was the least likely scenario. As much as Akeelah did not want to die she was not happy about the idea of being turned. Shifters in their true form might not be as strong as the other species, and they might have an inferior lifespan she loved what she was and did not want to change. Especially change into a vampire. Vampires were little more than a walking corpse in their true form that lived solely on blood. They might be strong but they were repulsive. Akeelah might care little about her looks but she wasn’t that indifferent. So now she knew that she needed to be very careful with this thing, one bite might be enough to turn her. Akeelah was still a little unsure about that, she had never heard of a shifter becoming a vampire before but this one seemed confident that it could be done.
All she had to do was avoid being bit. A task that was easier said than done. The biggest problem there was her fighting style. Akeelah had no weapons that she could rely on in this fight, she had never held a gun or wield a knife before so even if by some miracle she could get her hands on one she wouldn’t be able to use them. She also had no martial arts skills or self-defense training that could come in handy. The only way Akeelah knew how to fight was as an animal. Particularly the forms she took when she went hunting. But armed with only fangs and claws she still needed to be close enough to deal damage which meant she would be taking damage. The only way to avoid that was to take on a form with a thick enough hide or tough enough scales that would be hard to bite through. The biggest problems with that were one, the amount of space to maneuver in, less room meant less chance to better defend herself and hurt him. The second was her lack of fighting experience in those forms; it might be enough to put her at a disadvantage.
It would be better to change only if I have to. She reasoned, it would be a last resort if necessary. Or if she could get him in a tight spot it wouldn’t matter how much experience she had. So now she had a basic plan, it wasn’t much but if executed properly she could make it out of this vampire free. Her enemy morphed into his true form and it was then that she realized that he was anything but a vampire. Though he was as pale as a dead human he didn’t look like anything but a vampire. Was he really a vampire? Naturally because of Akeelah’s usual avoidance of anything mortal or not she had never seen a vampire before, she had only heard of them. It was possible that her image of a true vampire was wrong. But her gut feeling told her otherwise and after ignoring that feeling the first time she refused to ignore it again. Whatever he was he was not a vampire and that meant that she had even less of an idea of what she was dealing with or what she might become if she lost the fight.
Well there was only one way to find out what she was up against….
Akeelah shifted, taking on a form that she was the most comfortable with, a wolf. It was like her second skin, outside of civilization this was the form she used the most to hunt and therefore it was one of the best forms to fight in. The moment the change was complete she made the first move. She lunged at her enemy, fangs bared and ready to strike at him. But that wasn’t her goal at the moment. What Akeelah wanted was to make him jump back so she could run off to a more suitable spot without the fear of him taking advantage of the moment to strike the second her back was turn. So her strike would fall short, jaws snapping only inches away from where her stood before she made a run for the nearest room whether he tried to dodge or not.
As long as he did not get a hold of her during that stunt she moved to the nearest room and turned around to face the entrance to see if he followed her, while backing up to give them more space. The moment that he was in her line of vision again she started to growl and bare her fangs. Bring it on you disgusting piece of shit! she growled, naturally the creature wouldn’t understand what she was saying but her body language was enough to convey that message. If this freak want to turn her he was going to have one hell of a time trying.

It wasn't often that Niko walked around in his true form, or at least in the public. When others weren't around, he didn't mind taking up that form. It was just that when he looked more humanoid, he tended to fit in a lot better with society. This was especially true at night, when the more "shady" looking people were around. Since he often wore the hood on his jacket, some people might've been more weary of him, which was just fine for him. If too many of the humans avoided him and didn't fall for his tricks, he'd just hunt them and go after them himself. After all, humans could be pretty dumb. It was the other supernatural species that he had to be careful of, including shifters. So even though he thought this girl could be easy prey, Niko didn't let his guard down entirely. Doing such a thing would've been a foolish move on his part.
After watching her change forms, he was forced to side step her attack as she lunged at him as a wolf. Keeping his eyes on his opponent, Niko saw her enter another room. Not far behind her, he stepped into the doorway where they had a lot more space. All it really was, was an empty room, a benefit for both of them. There weren't even any left over desks, chairs, shelves, or anything like that. And of course, the walls being clear was great for Niko as well. It meant he'd be free to use them to his advantage without having to worry about obstructions. Even on the ceiling, there wasn't much. Just a few holes where things like a ceiling fan could've been. So once Niko made his way into the room, he knew he was better off here then in the hall that were both at before. And like always, he kept his focus on the girl before stopping just short of her.
The growl she gave off didn't phase him at all, and Niko simply stood where he was. "C'mon...one bite." He said to her. "It'll only for a little while, then you won't feel anything at all." After biting someone, all that person would feel was the quick and sharp pain of the teeth penetrating the skin. Then if a Reaper used the neurotoxins, the pain would quickly fade into nothing. From there, it would be awhile until the process of turning came around, and that was when the pain came back. To describe it, it was much like lycans during their first full moon. Niko wasn't about to spill the beans on that though, even though it was clearly evident that this shifter didn't want to be turned in the first place. That on mind, he knew he'd have to fight for it. So he immediately charged at the younger woman in wolf form.
Moving to the right at the last second, Niko aimed a kick directly at her ribs. With speed on his side, it might prove difficult, but not impossible to dodge it. And once Niko passed by, he quickly swept around behind her and aimed a second kick to her left side. Again, he wasn't aiming to kill, but bruised or broken ribs were always a bitch to deal with. So Niko came back around once more, ending up in front of the shifter. In the back of his mind, he was aware that she had some speed on her side as well while she was in the form of a wolf. It was why he watched her every move, and was ready to dodge any which way he had to. "I won't even take take that much if you just give up." He said to her. If she gave him, he'd just bite her and get it over with it. If not, he'd make sure to take a good bit of blood as well. However, Niko doubted that she'd give in to his deal. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! Word Count: 660 Notes: I had the idea of maybe the sun coming up later, forcing Niko to leave? She mentally scoffed at the thing’s comment. Right, sure it wouldn’t hurt at all but that wouldn’t be a good enough reason for her to just let him do as he pleased. Really what the hell did he think she was? Oh if she could just sink her fangs into him she would show him why he made a big mistake by trying to target her. Unlike him Akeelah didn’t have any neurotoxins in her saliva that would dull the pain when she bit. He would definitely feel the pain when she bit him, and the good thing about wolves was their jaws were designed to lock onto prey and not let go. All she needed was a good grip and she could do a lot of damage. She wasn’t sure if he had a high resistance to pain but she doubted that he could shrug something like that off.
Akeelah kept her eyes on the creature, studying his every movement to get ready to defend. Since she had no idea what this creature was she didn’t know what his strengths and weaknesses were and that meant that she had to be careful and anticipate the worse. For all she knew he was probably just as strong if not stronger than the average vampire, and she knew that she couldn’t handle a vampire alone. The best that she could guess about him was that he was probably fast, but in this form she was also quick. With any luck they might be equal in terms of speed, but she wouldn’t hold onto that hope though.
In a blink of an eye he was off and she got ready to defend herself, but she failed to see through the feint and before she had a chance to counterattack his first strike hit her. Akeelah let out a yelp of pain but she couldn’t stop to catch herself. He moved out of her line of vision, anticipating the next strike she side jumped just narrowly avoiding the second strike. Okay, I was right he is pretty fast. she thought, gritting her teeth against the pain from her ribs when she moved. This was not good, two seconds into this and already she wasn’t doing well. She hoped that her ribs weren’t broken, they did hurt though but there wasn’t any time for her to worry about that. She needed to bite back against it and try to beat her opponent, or at least try to get away from him without any further damage. His next words barely left his lips when she went on the offensive again. Leaping forward, jaws wide open with the intent to snap down on his face in response. If he wanted a bite so badly she would give him one, though the one who would be bitten was not going to be her if she could help it.
