Ever since making "reawakening" and making his appearance known, it was unclear on just how many shifters Niko has come across. Part of their specialty included deceiving people, and making themselves look like someone else. And because they were so close to humans, they could often be hard to pick up on with senses. Of course, there were the marks that they bared, and that often helped with identifying them. If that mark was covered up though, or you didn't see them shift, it was pretty much a guessing game. So with that fact on hand, Niko wasn't entirely sure what to expect exactly. For now, all he could do was guess. But after a few moments, he'd try to pick up on her tactics and how she did things. Then he'd learn from it, and put it to his own use. However, none of this really put him at a disadvantage. This shifter didn't know anything about Reapers, so they were both on an even playing field there.
After making his move, Niko was pleased to hear her cry out when his kick made contact. The second one had missed, but that didn't bother him much. As long as one of them had found its mark, he was pleased enough. So once he landed on his feet, Niko was already prepared to dodge any strikes. He didn't think his opponent would give way to any extra time, and he was proven right. When she came at him with her jaws open, he moved to his right, narrowly avoiding her attack. The sleeve of his jacket had caught in her teeth, and when he pulled away, it tore a small rip. Even if it had been his flesh though, he would've healed pretty quickly. That ability was another advantage that Reapers had over the other species. The only other ones that had that ability, were angels. But angels were usually good, and Reapers were bad.
Using the momentum from when he had dodged, Niko continued moving, making his way towards a wall. He had a plan in mind as he made a small leap and used his adherence to cling to the wall. It was much like a spider's ability, the main difference being that he could easily jump away if he had to. So he continued to climb up the wall, stopping at the point where it was just high enough to avoid being snapped at. "Can't get to me up here, can you?" He asked the shifter. But in Niko's opinion, going somewhere where she couldn't reach him, was no different than hiding. So he didn't plan to keep this up for very long. And right after the words left his mouth, he launched himself off the wall and towards his opponent. Being that he was still pretty close to her, he was hoping that she wouldn't be able to turn around fast enough to counter his attack.
If he could land on her and get her to the ground, all he'd have to do was pin her and bite from there. However, despite the fact that she was close to humans, Niko doubted it'd be that easy. She had already proven that she wasn't willing to give in without a good fight. But then again, his first attack had hit her. If he could get the lead this early in the game, it was a pretty good sign. Little did Niko know though, that he had a limited amount of time. Even though it was still dark out, the sun was due to rise pretty soon. He could stay out in the sunlight as long as he wanted, just as long as he had something to protect is eyes. At the moment, he had no such thing, and the sun could practically blind him. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! her opponent was just too fast for Akeelah to get a hold of. The second she struck he dodged just in time to avoid receiving any damage. The most she accomplished was ripping a bit of his clothing and nothing more. She didn’t let that deter her though. The instant he moved she moved with him, doing her best to ignore the piercing pain from her side from the sharp turn to give it another go. But he had managed to climb up the wall to avoid her reach. The shifter growled in frustration, glaring up at the opponent that was just out of her reach. She had to admit she wasn’t expecting him to be capable of doing such a thing but because she knew little of this species it didn’t surprise her that much. It was frustrating though that he could scale walls with ease. It meant that he could avoid her attacks and, when the time was right he could jump her, pin her down, and then bite her. The only way she could reach him was to shift to something that could climb walls or fly. Of course that was a no go, all those animals were just too small to fight as, even if she shifted once she was close enough she would just fall and injure herself. Either way this was bad, unless she could think of a way to force him back down she was screwed.
Sadly there was little time to ponder how to bring him down when he went in for the kill. But unfortunately for him she wasn’t going to let him win that easily. The second he jumped her she did the only thing that she could do, she shifted for the fourth time this night. This time though she took the form of something far more dangerous than a wolf, this time she shifted into a crocodile. A crocodile’s scales were tough enough that it wouldn’t be easy for him to bite her. The second he landed on her she immediately started thrashing about, doing her best to knock him off while she tried to sink her teeth into him. If he wasn’t thrown off right away or if she managed to grab a hold of one of his limbs she would roll, attempting to slam her enemy into the wall where she could pin him down and end this. If she had succeeded on knocking him off the first time she would shift back into a wolf as she turned around to bite him again before he could recover. As powerful as a crocodile’s form was Akeelah felt a little clumsy in it, they were quick when it came to moving in short distances but it couldn’t maneuver as easily on land as water. If she wanted to kill him it was better to go as a wolf. Would she kill him though? She wasn’t really thinking about that, besides hunting for food Akeelah had never killed anyone before. She didn’t think that she could overpower him enough to kill now but if the opportunity came then that was what she would do. It was either killed or be turned and if his death meant she wouldn’t be forcibly changed then she would have no problems ending his life.

After flinging himself off the wall, Niko didn't have much time to react. He saw the shifter change into a crocodile, but there was little he could do. However, that didn't stop him from trying as he threw his weight in a different direction. Still, he landed on his target, though his last second move helped him to avoid her jaws. Up until she started thrashing. At that point, he felt her clamp down on his arm, drawing out a yell from him. His immediate reaction wasn't to try and pry her mouth open, knowing that crocodiles had strong jaws, but instead, his fingers went to her eyes. Then to keep her from rolling, he pressed his entire weight against her, holding her down to the ground with his other arm wrapped around her neck. Niko also moved around the arm that was caught, which would've been a dumb move if he were human. It didn't matter how much damage he took though, he'd still heal. Even if he lost his entire arm.
Once he felt that his arm had enough space, he ripped it free from her jaws. Again, it would've been stupid if not for the process of healing. And now that his arm was free, he got up off of her and took a few steps back. He took a lot of damage from it, but already, his arm started to heal. This prompted a sinister laugh from Niko as he looked back at the shifter. "I was supposed to be perfect." He said to her "The hunters created their own hell, and now effects everyone else as well." When Niko had been made, he wasn't supposed to have any weaknesses. He'd heal, be immune to a number of things, and have the advantage of speed. However, the hunters failed to think about the consequences of it all. Reapers were hard to defeat, and it was all at their own fault.
So for anyone who came across Niko, it was one thing to try and defeat him, since he always made things difficult. But it was an entirely different one to try and kill him. The challenge was to get something silver past the bones protecting his heart, and pierce the organ. Niko had no plans in allowing someone to get at his side, since it was literally a weak point. Another way to kill him was through decapitation and burning of the head and body. However, that would be even more challenging than piercing his heart. Though again, he didn't plan on dying either, and he went forward with the fight at hand. Earlier, he saw a room that was falling apart. On the floor was some rebar, which he could easily use as a weapon. So he used his speed to dart out of the room, hoping that it'd also create some confusion for the shifter.
Having your opponent leave without warning likely wasn't something you'd expect, but he intended on coming back. And once he was out of the room, he was quick to make his way to the other one that had the rebar. In only a matter of moments, he found it and picked up one of the large pieces of metal, bringing it with him as he made his way back to where the shifter was. Entering the room once more, Niko was quick to act, moving just close enough to strike with the weapon he held. When he was at a distance he was satisfied with, he raised the bar for a moment before attempting to bring it down on his opponent's head. He wasn't a stabbing motion, but simply swinging it as if you were to try and beat someone with a bat. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! The shifter let out a triumphant growl as her jaws clamped down on his arm. Now that she had him right where she wanted him she was going to make the bastard pay for trying to turn her, starting with his arm. She continued to trash about as she held on tightly to him, the coppery taste of blood hitting her tongue as her teeth tore at his tender flesh only sending her into more of a frenzy. Human or not he was not going to get away from her easily; a crocodile’s strength easily rivaled that of any other supernatural creature. It would be impossible for him to try and pry her jaws open to escape…or so she had thought. Her opponent was smarter than that, instead of trying to yank his arm free or try to open her mouth in a panic her enemy jabbed her in the eye as he tried to stop her from moving, making her hiss out in pain. The action was enough to distract her, instinctively her grip loosened, not enough for her to release him but more than enough that her was able to rip his arm free from her hold.
Akeelah lunged at him, mentally cursing herself for letting him get away so easily. She literally had him in her grip and she let him go. No doubt she had just screwed herself over. His laughter only made her hiss at him again. Perfect her ass, oh if she could get at him a second time she would definitely kill him for good. This freak might have been made by the hunters but so were her kind, they no doubt thought that they made many others thinking that this time they made the perfect weapon. Each time that they did they were horribly wrong. Every one of the hunters’ experiments had been a failure and no doubt their latest creation was no exception. Still though she wasn’t sure if she could handle this man as she was now. The way that things were going now Akeelah was losing, she had injured him badly but he had a high tolerance for pain and would no doubt heal much faster than she ever could at this rate. It didn’t help that the girl virtually had no knowledge of exactly what this creature was and no doubt had no idea how t kill it. The best she could do was think of a vampire’s weaknesses, since this creature whether he liked it or not was a little similar to those creatures. Vampires though were tough to kill, the best way to ensure their death was to chop off their head and then burn their rotten corpse. It was easier said than done of course, and this creature probably had the same weakness too. If she could get in a good position she might be able to do just that.
In a moment her opponent disappeared, running off to the next room before she had the chance to register what had happened. The instant that he disappeared Akeelah decided to shift again. This time taking on her second preferred form, the leopard. At least now it was much easier to move about, her previous form though it guaranteed that she could not get bitten it felt sluggish and awkward. If she wanted to play on even ground with that fiend she would need to try and match his speed. Akeelah shook her head as she vision returned. Where the hell did that bastard go? she pondered. He could not have retreated, not after he mocked her like that so he had to be somewhere nearby.
In an instant he rushed back into room and tried to hit her. Akeelah tried to dodge the attack, moving away in just a knick of time to avoid taking the blow to the head. Unfortunately she still took the hit, most of the impact taken by her shoulder instead. Son of a bitch! she roared, she swiped at his legs with her claws, not just to injure him but with the hopes of knocking him down to the ground. The biggest problem with her opponent was his speed; if she had any chance at all she needed to slow him down. Whether she brought him down or not she would lunge at him again and try to sink her fangs and claws into his calf. He might have a high tolerance for pain and could heal quickly but serious injuries would still slow him down. It would buy her enough time to either take his head or som how bring him down enough so she could make her escape.

He was running short on time. That was something Niko knew for sure. He never expected his battle with the shifter to last this long though, but he intended to keep going up until the very last moment. Now, would he step up his game and try to speed things up? Probably not. He was pretty quick enough as it was, and he didn't want to rush things. Rushing lead to mistakes, and no one liked mistakes. Keeping his eyes on his opponent, Niko tried to finish things off with a swing from the rebar. However, she dodged his attack and the bar ended up hitting her in the shoulders. It wasn't what he wanted, but it was still a strike. Now he was expecting her to strike back at him, and that was exactly what she did. When he saw her claws coming at him, he jumped back and tried to use the bar in defense by putting it in her path.
His maneuver didn't work out as well as he planned though, and since he didn't have his hands where he wanted them on the bar, the shifter easily batted it out of the way. It was still in his grip, but her claws managed to nick him in the shins. The damage wasn't nearly as bad as what he took to the arm, so it didn't bother him much at all. Again, they began to heal in only a matter of moments, but he didn't waste any time. Taking the rebar into a good grip once more, he swung it at his opponent, hoping to hit her in the head. If he could get her unconscious, it'd allow him enough time to bite and turn her. And just in case his first strike didn't find it's mark, Niko came back around with a second swing from the opposite side. Thankfully for him, he's already fed earlier in night and into the morning. So his thirst wasn't anything he had to be concerned about. If he didn't get to feed some from the shifter, he'd just move on and try to find someone else when the sun went back down.
Since he was a "descendant" of vampires, he had issues with thirst if he didn't feed. If he went long enough without blood, the thirst would eventually take over. He'd feed from anyone, whether he would've liked it or not. But as far as killing someone he liked though, that wasn't much of a concern. There was only one person that he took to liking, and that was Adeline. She was a fellow reaper, the first person he ever turned. She helped him out in a lot of things, which was why she was like a sidekick to him. Niko doubted he'd ever let his thirst get out of control, so again, it wasn't of any concern to him. He always fed pretty often, and hopefully, he'd be feeding from this shifter. So to keep things going, he kept moving on his feet. After swinging the rebar at her, he darted around to her side and swung yet again.
He didn't want to give her a chance to attack him, but he also didn't want to rush. He could resort to walls again, though if he did that, there wasn't much he could do in the way of striking at her. Since she was a leopard at the moment, he didn't want to try leaping at her like had last time. So clinging to the walls would've been reserved for avoidance, not attacking. That on mind, Niko kept to the ground and on his feet. She was equally matched in speed with him now, and he kept that fact in mind. This was why he wanted to keep moving, not to mention that he didn't want her to pin him to the ground. So after moving around to her side, Niko came in behind her, knowing she'd probably attack. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! Her attack did not turn out as well as she hoped. The creature immediately went on the defensive the instant that his strike failed to hit his mark. He leaped back and tried to block her attack with his temporary weapon. His grip on the bar was not strong enough to completely block her attack though, she easily knocked it out of her way; not out of his hands but at least for the moment she hit it hard enough to get it out of the way. Sadly it wasn’t enough to do much damage, at most she managed to nick him in the shin but that would do very little overall. The wound was already healing it could not even be considered a hindrance to this thing. His previous wound was also healing with each passing second and that put her in a more dangerous position. If this guy was hard to bring down now when he only had use of one arm he was not going to be any easier to take down with two, that much he had proven earlier in their fight. His high tolerance for pain also added another level of difficulty; most injuries that would make any mortal creature slow down or weaken did little good against whatever this guy was. This was why Akeelah had always hated the idea of fighting against anything that was immortal. She might not be human but she did not pride herself in being a fighter, she was tough enough to defend herself when she absolutely had to but she had no experience fighting against immortal creatures and nor did she want to.
Shifters were a tricky race to deal with, a smart shifter knew how to use their abilities to come out on top of a fight but they were still mortal. Strip away their abilities they were just as fragile as the average human being. Where creatures like the one she was facing did not tire she eventually would, when that happened then she was really screwed. That’s why she needed to end things quickly, but at the rate that things were going that was not going to happen anytime soon. Her best chance of surviving this fight was so much as winning as just getting away from her opponent. Running away from this would be the smart choice but of course it would not be the easiest thing to do in her current position. The last thing Akeelah wanted to do was to turn her back on this guy, especially when he was naturally very quick. At the moment they were evenly matched in speed but she could not afford to run now when he was fully capable of bringing her down. All that she needed to do was to either slow him down or somehow immobilize him for a few minutes, just enough to make her escape and put some distance between them.
Akeelah did not know that the sun was about to rise, she was so focused on the fight that she had lost all sense of time. Even if she did it would mean very little to her. She did know that vampires when in their true form were not very fond of sunlight. But though this guy had one or two similar characteristics of a vampire he was not one of them, that meant that he would have different abilities and that included different weaknesses. If she thought she could hold up till sunrise and watch him run off as the light burned him she might be greatly disappointed, and just as screwed as she was now. Only then she would probably feel foolish for holding her hopes out on such a thing. The only sure way to kill or seriously injury anything whether immortal or not was to rib off their limbs or do serious enough head trauma that they either died or would take awhile to recover. She wondered if she tried to snap his neck if it would paralyze him for a short period of time. She would not count on it but it would not hurt to try if she was given the opportunity.
He tried to swing the rebar again but this time she was quick enough to dodge the first strike. He gave her little room to do more than that when he failed to hit her. In an instant he darted off to her side and tried to hit her again. The movement alone would have made it tricky to dodge if this time she wasn’t using her head. The instant he moved she shifted again, this time taking on her usual cat form. The sudden transformation into a now much smaller target made his strike miss. She used the small opportunity to try and get behind him, switching back just as quickly into a leopard again to try and pin him down to the ground, her fangs piercing his neck and her claws digging into sides as she tried to knock him down. All she needed was to get a good grip on him and do enough damage that she could make her escape. The possibility of killing him in the process was merely a bonus.

Niko had to make sure he stayed on his feet, and on high alert as he battled this shifter. He regretted not bringing weapons, but fighting someone hadn't been in his plans tonight. Next time, he'd make sure to bring along a blade of some sort, since guns weren't his thing. Those kinds of "toys" belonged to the hunters, and by now, it should've been known how much he hated them. For that, Niko refused to use firearms, even if they'd benefit him. Besides, blades were a better proof of skill. It took some skill to use them efficiently in a fight, while with a gun, all you really did was point and shoot. That was another reason why Niko had no respect for the hunters. They always used guns against the supernatural, who for the most part, went around unarmed. Hell, he knew this feeling didn't just reside with him though. It was probably mutual amongst all who were inhuman and disliked hunters.
That being said, one of Niko's greatest goals wasn't just to turn as many people into Reapers as he could, but to get revenge on the hunters. What would be even better, was if he could take out that revenge on the exact ones who tossed him out. However, he doubted that any of them were still alive. That was hundreds of years ago and they were only human. Still, he was hoping that a few of them had been turned along the way and managed to make it up to this point. If such were the case, he'd kill them. As for now, his main goal was to defeat this shifter. She was a much better fighter then he first thought, or at least good at avoiding attacks and going on the defensive. But hey, if she lived out on the streets and made her living there, that meant she was probably street smart, right? That, he couldn't deny.
When she dodged his attack once again, Niko mentally cursed to himself. From now on, he'd have to make sure to take on a few more shifters to try and gain experience with them. Their abilities often made it tricky to fight against them. Niko knew though that he wouldn't have any time before she turned the attack against him. And as he turned around, he was proven right. She had shifted into leopard and immediately tried to pin him tot he ground. Seeing this, Niko dodged to the right to avoid her, but he still felt her claws rake against his side. Even though he could heal, it was still a bad move on his part. As known, the weakness of all reapers were at their side, where their heart wasn't protected. If the shifter had been using a sword or anything that was long enough to pierce through and reach his heart, he could've been killed. Getting struck on the side was something Niko never intended to allow again.
Keeping on the move though, the hit only slowed him down for a moment before he refocused on the task at hand. Coming in around behind his target once more, he aimed another swing at her, this time hoping to take out her legs. Yet, as Niko came around to her other side to make a second strike, he had positioned himself right in front of one of the windows. As if on cue, the sun shone through, blinding him for that quick moment. Another weakness for reapers, was the sun easily blinded them. It was like having someone point a flashlight directly into your eyes. Darting off away from the window and up a wall, Niko stopped for a moment, only to speak to the shifter for a quick moment. "Best keep away from here at night." He said to her, poison lacing his tone. "There's more of us around." By "us", he meant reapers. And without wasting another second, Niko darted away once more and left the scene. ------------ Tag: Akeelah! Word Count: 662 Notes: Sorry if that ended a bit sooner then you wanted. Her little maneuver had taken the creature off his guard just enough for injury him. It really wasn’t much in the long run. Akeelah had intended to pin him down so she could do some real damage but the most that she got out of it was a nasty scratch at his side. Akeelah was unaware just how badly her being able to strike him there was for him but she could tell that her opponent was getting annoyed with her. She was proving to be more of a challenge than this guy originally had thought and that meant a lot. Those that underestimated their opponents suffered for it, sometimes losing their lives for making such a mistake. Even if Akeelah could not kill him here this fight might be enough to make him think twice about taking her on again, or taking on any other shifter for that matter. She highly doubted that though, it was nothing more than wishful thinking. It was not like this man was stupid, he obliviously knew what he was doing and though things were not going as well as he had hoped he had some idea of how difficult it might be to try and take on a shifter. This probably would not be the last time she saw him if she could not end this once and for all, sure she might get away this time around but if she had to face him again there was no way of knowing what the outcome would be.
Her opponent was quick to recover from the attack at no surprise to her. The instant that he disappeared from her line of vision she tried to turn around to intercept him, she had moved just in time to narrowly avoid being knocked down on the floor. Sadly it did not give her much time to make a counter attack. Akeelah let out an angry growl as the creature tried to make his second move. Damn he was fast, too fast. How could she hope to get a hold of him like this if she could not slow him down? Just as she was getting ready to avoid another assault something curious had happened. When the creature moved to attack her the sunlight had hit his eyes, the instant it did he faltered and immediately darted off to the nearest section of wall. Wait…so he doesn’t like sunlight? it certainly seemed like it though, it wasn’t like he screamed in agony or that the sun turned him to ash the instant it hit him but it was enough to blind him and it was not even that bright out yet.
His little threat was met with an unamused growl. She watched the thing scatter off in a hurry, presumably to find some shelter before it was too late. Akeelah remained where she was, listening to the other run off once he was out of sight. She waited a few minutes like this till she was sure he was gone before she shifted back to her true form and slumped down onto the floor, exhausted. It was over, it was finally over. Out of sheer stubbornness and determination Akeelah had made it through the night. She had survived but it did not come without a price. The fight had exhausted her energy; she could already feel some of the adrenaline fading from her system. She was also in pretty bad shape too; her side was killing her, not to mention her shoulder where she got hit earlier. Sadly there was no time for her to try and relax, she had to get moving. The bastard’s words were still running through her head. She did not need him to tell her that there were more of his kind around this place, she was not stupid, of course she assumed that if he existed that there were even more of his kind lurking about. That was obvious, Akeelah doubted that she was the first person he had tried to turn and no doubt would not be the last. It was not the knowledge that more of his kind were out there that worried her though, it was the one that she had faced just now that was her biggest concern. The rest of his kind did not know who or what she was but he did, he had come after her and might try to do the same again. She could not stay here, she had to get out of this place and find somewhere else to go to.
The only problem was trying to find a place. She could not find another part of this town to hide in; it would be too easy for him to locate her especially if this area was part of his territory. Akeelah needed to go to another spot to hide, but she still did not know her place around her yet so it would not be easy. She also needed to find a place before sunset if she wanted to avoid a second confrontation. It would not be easy but she had to give it a try. Slowly Akeelah forced herself back onto her feet and made her way towards the window. She forced the thing open and climbed out, shifting to her feline form once she made it outside. At least she remembered how to get out of this place but once she left this area she was on her own.
